The former Crowne Plaza Hotel at Caversham Bridge is being transformed into a Village Hotel.
The Crowne Plaza closed its doors at the junction of Richfield Avenue and Caversham Road last December, sparking speculation about the site’s future. There were talks of converting the location into homes, a care home, or even an electric vehicle charging hub.
However, in January, it was announced that the hotel had been acquired by Village Hotel Club, which operates 33 leisure destinations across the UK. Recently, Village Hotels received approval for a licensing application to operate until 2am.
The new licence allows Village Hotels to sell alcohol and host entertainment from 7am to 2am every night. Additionally, the hotel can serve food and refreshments between 11pm and 2am each day. The licence was granted by Reading Borough Council after a statutory consultation closed on April 7 with no objections.
